Start by establishing a relaxed relationship with your body and let the quiet settle throughout your body so there is calm abiding. Center yourself so your mind is focused and alert. Begin the journey into your body very simply by bringing attention to the somatic form and outline created by the physical sensations of the body. Stop and ask yourself, What is this? What are you sensing? Do not meet the question with a known answer, but let the question take you into the wonderment of the sensation itself. Once the sensation is released from what you know it to be, it no longer conforms to the shape of your body. Watch sensations spread out beyond their conceptual boundaries where they no longer define body as body. What was once the body now become points of sensation. Now go into the points of sensation, allowing them to open, and witness as well their transformation beyond any definition. As each new area of the body arises, instead of identifying it as bone, heart, chest, torso, lungs, legs, and so forth, simply release the need to name the form. Now watch the form transform itself into sensation once the name has been quieted. Go into each sensation and open it beyond its name. Notice it becoming more than even the name “sensation” implies. Continue to break the pattern of naming groups of sensations during your meditation, and abide instead within the wordless truth of reality. See if you can access and encourage this wordless truth into the activities of your day.
